Company Visit at Meralco Power Lab

A delegation of the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited the Meralco Power Lab in Ortigas, Metro Manila. The group consisting of GPCCI members and GPCCI staff was warmly welcomed by Mr. Eusebio Gonzales, Assistant Vice President & Head of SME Metro North Area.

After a short introduction about Meralco as the Philippine’s largest distributor of electrical power and Metro Manila’s only electric power distributor, the group was guided to the Power Lab using the company’s own electric vehicles.

In this just recently opened laboratory it is all about energy efficiency. Meralco is testing the energy consumption of different devices to eventually recommend the most efficient ones to customers by tagging them with an orange tag which you can find in several appliance stores around the Philippines.

After an interesting presentation about energy consumption, the delegation went on to the showroom where they got to know the newest developments of energy consumption control systems for households. Nowadays you only need a smartphone or tablet to turn your air conditioner or TV on and off from wherever you are. Integrating the smart technologies in the energy saving process is one of the main goals of Meralco’s Power Lab.

Another important topic was the solar technology which Meralco supports by assisting clients who are willing to install solar panels. The company wants people to be aware that they should always inform them when installing a solar panel. Otherwise it can lead to even higher electricity costs than before.

After experiencing this exciting tour the GPCCI delegation was invited for lunch in Meralco’s restaurant on the 14th floor, a delicious end of a successful company visit.
