GPCCI Member, International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) hosted a port tour for the Company Visit for Members last 18 April 2017. The tour was held in ICTSI’s Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) which is one of the eight terminals of ICTSI in the Philippines.

Mr. Christian Lozano, Commercial Director of ICTSI, gave a brief introduction of ICTSI, the projects they collaborate with the government, and their contribution to fully-automate the import-export process. He started by mentioning that the Philippine GDP is good and German-Philippine trade relations have been improving lately.

ICTSI uses fast and efficient measures that contribute to modernizing the industry. One example is its automated gates where delivery trucks would only need to do biometric verification. Additionally, online submission of requirements, and their terminal appointment booking system contributes to reducing congestion and simplifying processes as it avoids delivery trucks passing through the terminal at any time they prefer. Mr. Lozano mentioned as well that ports are safe from truck bans as there has already been an ordinance for it. ICTSI is an advocate for improving road management with projects in the pipeline such as: rail development from MICT to Laguna; and connector road construction in collaboration with DPWH, which will from the board to the cargo highway to the consignee.

Inquiries were raised on ICTSI’s contribution for water management and if there were any plans for the Laguna area. These were answered by Mr. Lozano that ICTSI acknowledges the need to forward the water management but collective work from the community and government is also needed in this aspect. The latter was answered with information of private entities investing in Laguna, and that Cavite also has the luxury of skilled workers.

The briefing was followed by an exclusive tour of the port through its six berths. By 2022, MICT will expand to nine berths.

We would like to thank ICTSI for accommodating our Members with its provision of valuable information exchange. The Chamber sees the importance of the visit as we believe that in one way or another, to quote Mr. Lozano, all businesses are connected to the success of the maritime industry.

ICTSI head office is located in Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) Access South Access Road, Port of Manila, 1012 Philippines.
