Business and Society

Corporate responsibility and sustainable business practices.

We believe that a social market economy leads to more employment and prosperity, and ultimately to an inclusive economic growth. Corporate social responsibility measures are ideally aligned to the core business of a company and make a valuable contribution to society.

AHK Philippines wants to provide a platform for a lively discussion on challenges and solutions on how to conduct business responsibly while maintaining a healthy financial bottom line. Here, we present the guiding principles of our work, as well as the various networks and initiatives, that the AHK Philippines has joined for this purpose.

UN Global Compact

AHK Philippines joined the United Nations Global Compact

AHK Philippines advocates the ten principles of the UN Global Compact and has joined the initiative. The UN Global Compact provides a universal language for corporate responsibility and provides a framework to guide all businesses regardless of size, complexity or location.

By incorporating the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into strategies, policies and procedures, and establishing a culture of integrity, companies are not only upholding their basic responsibilities to people and planet, but also setting the stage for long-term success.

The Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact are derived from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

The UN Global Compact Principles

The Honorable Merchant

This sustainable business conduct originates far back in German history. Centuries ago, the Honorable Merchant, was introduced and has shown its positive impact since. It is applicable even today as companies refer to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), corporate citizenship, or stakeholder management. One can summarize it to responsible business conduct which is ideally aligned to the core business of a company.
