Industry experts share updates on issues at the Maritime Forum

Stakeholders of the maritime industry gathered together on November 6, 2019 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza for the Maritime Forum hosted by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, NordCham Philippines and the Norwegian Philippines Business Council.

The theme for this year’s forum is “Beyond the Horizon – Looking to the Future of Philippine Maritime Sector”. MARINA Officer-in Charge VADM Narciso Vingson, Jr. gave an update on the current situation of the European Commission’s assessment of the maritime education, training and certification system. He also shared the steps taken by the Philippine government to address the finidings of the EMSA audit. This was followed by a panel discussion with Mr. Per-Arne Waloen of the Norwegian Maritime Authority Manila and VADM Eduardo Santos of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific joining VADM Vingson.The discussion focused on how the maritime sector can achieve compliance with the EMSA Audit.

The second part of the forum centered on the Strategies for Digital Transformation in the Maritime Industry. Mr. Tore Henriksen of Döhle Shipmanagement Phils. Corp, Ms. Mailyn Borillo of OSM Maritime Group and Mr. Anjaney Borwankar of Navozyme PTE Ltd discussed how automation, blockchain, autonomous ships, mass data management and climate change will affect the industry.
