On 24 March 2026, The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI), together with the German Embassy Manila and the German Club Manila set the stage for the Economic Forum entitled Owning Your Voice: Women Speaking with Authority, held in celebration of Women’s Month and in partnership with Soroptimist International. The program opened with remarks from Ms. Charlotte Bandelow, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Trade Promotion of GPCCI.
The event highlighted its speaker, Ms. Marie Antoniette “Maan” Mariano, the first female President of the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) and first female Vice President and Head of Europe Desk at BDO Unibank, Inc.
In her talk, Ms. Mariano spoke passionately about the evolving role of women in leadership and how building confidence and supportive environments can empower women to make decisions that lead to sustainable business growth. She shared a heartwarming personal story that showed her values not only as a businesswoman, but also as a mother. These revealed the challenges of balancing professional responsibilities with family life, emphasizing that motherhood has been a source of strength, resilience, empathy, and purpose.
Ms. Mariano’s heartfelt message reminded women in the business industry that they are not defined by limitations but by their ability to rise above them, to trust their instincts, and to lead with authenticity. Equally moving was her reminder that being a mother is not a hindrance to success but a foundation that shapes compassionate and courageous leadership.
The event left the attendees deeply inspired, not only by Ms. Mariano’s story but also by the powerful exchange during the Q&A session, where women voiced their challenges and sought guidance on overcoming challenges where leadership does not always look like them.
The event was concluded with the closing remarks of Mr. Eric Gottschalk, President of the German Club Manila. We were also honored by the presence of GPCCI’s premium partners BDO Unibank, FLS Group, and PPI Pazifik, and sincerely appreciate their continued support.
Overall, the gathering was a meaningful celebration of resilience and empowerment, highlighting how women who embrace their voices and lead with confidence can break barriers and create lasting impact in both business and in life. As Ms. Mariano stated, “Being the first is not just an accomplishment; you also ensure you are not the last".
