Conference on Energy Efficiency for the Industry - Solutions Made in Germany (2019)
German companies exploring business opportunities in energy efficiency in the Philippine industry
Energy Efficiency was the topic of the conference held on May 7, 2019, where ten German experts presented their business solutions in the field of energy efficiency for the industry to the Philippine market. The conference with over 100 participants was organized by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in close cooperation with the Philippine Green Building Council and the Renewable Energy Association of the Philippines. German and Philippine experts alike along with government representatives shared project opportunities and best practices.
With high electricity prices and rising climate awareness the government is increasing their support in the renewable energy market. The current situation of energy shortage (Red Alert) emphasizes the need of solutions for the National Grid. In 2015, the Government signed the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 70% until 2030. Furthermore, the Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) updated the 2017-2040 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Roadmap, which expects to advance through energy efficiency practices and market interventions toward an annual energy saving target of 10,000 ktoe by 2040.
Assistant Secretary Robert B. Uy from the Energy Utilization Management Bureau (DOE) gave an update on the status of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, stating "The regulations shall be implemented within the next six months". "The German-Philippine efforts and corporations will contribute to the country’s further engagement in energy efficiency" GPCCI President Tristan Arwen Loveres further emphasized.
Accommodating a full house, the attendees seized their chance to broaden their network and joined in business matchings.
The conference is part of a 4-day business mission of seven (7) German companies, namely, ARCA Regler GmbH, Autarsys GmbH, Fichnter GmbH & Co. KG, INTEC Engineering GmbH, meteocontrol GmbH, PV2 Energie GmbH and SolarNext GmbH.
In the days following the conference the German companies will further explore partnership potentials with Philippine counterparts. The project is part of the export program Energy Solutions Made in Germany of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) supporting German SMEs in their global outreach.
