Training
Capacity building among Filipino biogas technicians is one of the main goals of the Pineapples to Power project. Throughout the project life cycle, various workshops were conducted.
Biogas Basics
-
- In the first quarter of 2021, the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI), the German biogas technology provider Lipp GmbH and the German Biogas Association (GBA) kicked off a comprehensive training series on the functionality, use and maintenance of biogas systems in the Philippines.
On-site Plant Safety Training: FvB
- In April 2022, GPCCI together with Lipp and the German Biogas Association conducted an on-site biogas safety training in South Cotobato. The safety training is in accordance with the German Safety Rules and was headed by Mr. Michael Koettner (CEO of the International Biogas and Bioenergy Centre of Competence (IBBK) and certified trainer in the Biogas Safety Training Network of the German Biogas Association).
Pedagogical Training (Train the Trainers)
- The 4-day online training was designed to equip 10 biogas technicians with pedagogical skills needed to convey their knowledge successfully and independently to new plant personnel and other persons interested or exposed to biogas operations. Participants learned about the characteristics and roles of an effective trainer and to understand and use Adult Learning Theory and learner motivations in preparing training activities to effectively share and convey their knowledge. These trained multipliers will help to independently localize biogas knowledge in the Philippines.

Biogas Basics: An Introduction to Biogas Systems
- In October 2022, the second launch of the 6-day online training series was conducted for the functionality, use, and maintenance of industrial scale biogas systems in the Philippines. The training covered topics of biogas plant biology and technology, industrial scale biogas plant operation, safety measures, and maintenance. The training was conducted by trainers of the German Biogas Association, which also certified 53 participants who successfully passed the knowledge test at the end of the training.
