On 25 September 2024, GPCCI officially inaugurated its Information Technology Committee (ITC) with a discussion of the committee's vision, mission, and goals for its members and a presentation on the Philippine IT-BPM Roadmap 2028.
GPCCI Executive Director Mr. Christopher Zimmer highlighted that the ITC aims to serve as a platform for collaboration between Germany and the Philippines, offering insights and opportunities to strengthen partnerships and drive growth in the thriving IT industry. This was supported and echoed by ITC Vice Chairperson Mr. Tobias Rast saying that GPCCI is committed to provide support for the IT industry in the Philippines.
Mr. Martin Baulig, ITC Chairperson, briefly presented the Committee's vision and mission statement which focuses on empowering its members through providing essential and tailored IT knowledge, tools and training, and necessary support to navigate the dynamic landscape of technology and policy. He also mentioned that the ITC has segmented its target stakeholders from top management to IT professionals, and to various practitioners to ensure that the activities of the Committee will cater to everyone in the stakeholder map.
Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) Consultant for AI, Technology and Research, Mr. Dominic Ligot, tackled the overview of the Philippine IT-BPM industry underscoring that the country is one of the leading locations for delivery of IT-BPM services. He discussed about the high preference of leading IT-BPM companies to do business in the Philippines because of talent excellence, favorable business climate, and diverse services offered. Mr. Ligot also presented the vision by 2028 for the Philippine IT industry to position the Philippines as an "experience hub” with its exceptional talent pool and friendly business environment. He underscored the importance for the country to adapt to AI and maximize its potential for industry development.
As a key point to his discussion and responses, Mr. Ligot highlighted the vital role of the private sector in bridging the gap in skills development and talent requirements of the industry. He encouraged companies to be proactive in providing access to trainings, tools, and necessary support to the education sector in developing the future of the IT industry in the Philippines.
